Williamsburg Visit with Mom and Dad

My parents came for a visit this weekend and yesterday we decided to take Ellie to Williamsburg. It's about 20 minutes from our house. Rob promises me if we don't end up moving back to West Virginia, we can move there. The schools are great, the area is great, and we have wonderful friends there. I was surprised at the amount of tourists - especially since the lighting ceremony isn't until Sunday.

Mom and dad found this colonial guy and started chatting him up. My mom knows a crap load about history so she's all into the colonial dudes who also are history-like. I'm pretty sure this one just made up facts. I would if I worked there. And if I got caught...deny, deny, deny.

Here's a horse carriage thing. It was a funeral. The person who died asked to be paraded around Williamsburg before they got buried. Pretty cool - but the rest of us had to avoid the horse piles. (deny, deny, deny)

This is my favorite tree. I WILL eventually climb it when no one's looking.

My favorite wreath is the one over the door with the apples and pineapple. Back in colonial times, or whatever, they didn't even decorate for Christmas like this. They actually just celebrated with drunken parties (this is what that colonial guy told us). They didn't start the arrangements until 1935. When they tried to go back to something more historically accurate, the tourists flipped out (::sigh::...tourists) so they had to start all over again and make stuff out of food.

Governors Mansion and some old couple that wouldn't get out of the picture. It's ok. Maybe someday they can see my blog and they'll be really happy they made it on here.

Ok y'all know I had to put one of these on here. We got her a few Christmas dresses this year - one is a white dressier one, and then this one for fun. I've always been against those starchy, poofy dresses people make their kids wear. I HATED them when I was a little girl, and I refuse to make Ellie wear them. So we dress her like a little Miss Santa instead :)
