The Great Pumpkin Patch

Today we went on the hunt for Ellie's first pumpkin! We met our wonderful friends Sarah and Amber (both of whom I worked with at VIMS), hopped on the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry and went to College Run Farms in Surry. Boy did we ever learn about pumpkins! I had no idea that there were so many different types. The pumpkins and gourds were planted in rows and each row is a different variety. Upon our arrival we were given shears and a chart stating the location of each type within the garden. The GREAT thing is that you buy it by the type of pumpkin and not by the pound. The most expensive one that we bought was a HUGE one for 5 bucks. I bet that sucker weighed 45 pounds...easy.

We started the day with a pumpkin muffin from Sarah, and finished the day with pumpkin ice cream...and of course Ellie looked the part :) HOW FUN!
